IVANISHVILI STARTED REPRESSIONS AGAINST GEORGIAN PRESIDENT ZURABISHVILI
On the eve of the elections, the ruling party promised repressions. As we can see, they did not wait long and have already summoned President Zurabishvili for questioning. Already now, the security forces are ramping up pressure on opposition leaders and the president.
The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, is being summoned to the prosecutor's office to provide testimony in a case concerning potential election fraud in Georgia. Prosecutors launched an investigation into possible falsification of parliamentary elections following a report by the Central Election Commission.
Law enforcement authorities see signs of a crime under Article 164 of the country's Criminal Code – interference with voter expression and/or violation of voting secrecy. They assert that "Zurabishvili should have evidence of possible parliamentary election falsification," which is why she has been called in for questioning by the investigative body on October 31.
The Georgian prosecutor's office promises to conduct "all necessary investigative and procedural actions, as stated in the CEC's report, and to examine the facts mentioned by the President of Georgia, representatives of certain political parties, and observer missions."
"As part of the investigation, all individuals who may have information about the alleged criminal incident will be questioned," the statement emphasized.
In addition, law enforcement is investigating multiple violations identified during the pre-election period and on voting day.
Earlier, Zurabishvili accused the ruling party "Georgian Dream" of employing Russian-style tactics and propaganda during the parliamentary elections on October 26.
Following the parliamentary elections in Georgia, where the ruling party "Georgian Dream" officially won, international observers noted voter intimidation and pressure. Opposition parties do not recognize the election results, claiming that "Georgian Dream" "stole" them. The opposition has called for protests.
