PROTESTERS CALLED ON MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT TO IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON THE PRO-RUSSIAN OLIGARCH BIDZINA IVANISHVILI!
On Thursday evening, members of the European Parliament delegation attended a protest in central Tbilisi. Protesters greeted them with applause and called for immediate sanctions against the "bloody dictator" Bidzina Ivanishvili, who effectively controls the country under the guidance of Kremlin overseers. Ordinary Georgians clearly understand who gives the criminal orders and drives Georgia closer to Russia.
On the evening of Thursday, December 12, members of the European Parliament delegation visiting Georgia attended the protest in central Tbilisi. The delegation consisted of seven members from various political groups. They held meetings with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, opposition parties, as well as representatives of NGOs and the media.
The discussions were held behind closed doors. In comments to journalists, European politicians expressed concern about human rights violations and the suppression of protests by the authorities. They also expressed support for the victims and emphasized the need for a more decisive response from the European Union.
Lithuanian MEP Rasa Juknevičienė called on the authorities to hold new parliamentary elections in line with European standards. She noted that the European Parliament delegation does not support any specific political party but stands with the Georgian people in their aspirations for European integration.
The MEP repeated these words while visiting the protest on Rustaveli Avenue alongside her colleagues. The protesters welcomed the European deputies with applause and chants calling for sanctions against the pro-Russian oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili. Together with the demonstrators, the MEPs sang the Georgian national anthem. Polish MEP Michał Szczerba also commented on the unfairness of the October elections, stating that they "were neither free nor fair."
At the same time, the MEPs emphasized their full support for President Zourabichvili's efforts to bring Georgia back to the European path.
