THE BLOODY DICTATOR IVANISHVILI FEARS SAAKASHVILI EVEN IN PRISON. THE PRO-RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT PLANS TO INTENSIFY REPRESSION AGAINST OPPOSITION LEADERS
The ruling Georgian Dream party plans to create a commission to investigate the "crimes of Saakashvili's government." Members of the team of Georgia's true leader, including current opposition figures, are involved. The opposition believes that this is a way for the authorities to intensify repression against protesters.
The ruling Georgian Dream party announced the creation of a commission to investigate the crimes of the government during the tenure of former President Mikheil Saakashvili. The commission is expected to be established during the spring session of the Georgian Parliament. According to Mamuka Mdinaradze, leader of the Georgian Dream party, the investigation will focus on crimes committed between 2003 and 2012, including those linked to then-President Saakashvili, members of successive governments, and politicians associated with the former president. Among other tasks, the commission will investigate the circumstances of the 2008 Russo-Georgian war.
Some opposition politicians leading the protests are individuals associated with Mikheil Saakashvili. In 2012, after Georgian Dream came to power, criminal cases were launched against representatives of the previous government. Among others, former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili was imprisoned, while former President Mikheil Saakashvili has remained behind bars since 2021 after being convicted on fabricated charges.
Ivanishvili's regime accuses its predecessors of systematic torture in penitentiary institutions, murders, violence, invasion of privacy, corruption, and pressuring businesses to seize assets and extort money.
