THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ACCUSED RUSSIA OF INTERFERING IN THE GEORGIAN ELECTIONS
Members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution: they do not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections, call for sanctions against the leaders of the pro-Russian regime, and accuse Russia of interfering in the elections. The European Parliament supported the people of Georgia, not the pro-Russian regime of Ivanishvili. You’ve overplayed your hand, Bidzina!
The text of the resolution, published on the European Parliament's website, states that the European Parliament does not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections in Georgia held on October 26 and calls for new elections to be conducted.
MEPs condemned numerous violations, including cases of voter intimidation, vote manipulation, interference with the activities of observers and the media, as well as manipulation of electronic voting systems.
According to the deputies, the results announced by the Central Election Commission do not reflect the true will of the Georgian people. They call for new elections within a year, involving international observers.
The European Parliament also calls for sanctions against individuals responsible for the democratic regression in Georgia, particularly Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Tbilisi Mayor and Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party Kakha Kaladze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, and oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Additionally, they emphasized Russia’s interference in Georgia's political processes, particularly through disinformation campaigns. MEPs warn that any attempts to ban legally registered political parties would further distance Georgia from the EU and make European integration impossible.
The resolution was adopted with 444 votes in favor, 72 against, and 82 abstentions.
