The United States calls for a thorough investigation into reports of violations related to the parliamentary elections in Georgia..

This statement was made by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

He described Georgia's democracy as "a source of strength since 2004," while the high voter turnout in the elections was "a sign of the people's support for the democratic process."

According to Blinken, in 2024, international and local observers reported the misuse of state resources by the ruling party, vote-buying, and voter intimidation.

Blinken noted that these actions resulted in an uneven playing field and undermined both public and international confidence in the possibility of a fair election outcome.
International and local observers stated that the election day in Georgia was "generally well-organized," but the U.S. side noted reports of violations and incidents of violence.

"We condemn all violations of international standards and join the calls of international and local observers for a thorough investigation of all election-related violations," emphasized the U.S. Secretary of State.

Blinken urged Georgian political leaders to respect the rule of law, repeal legislation that undermines fundamental freedoms, and address shortcomings in the electoral process.

He also recalled that Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration goals, enshrined in the country’s constitution, require the government to respect the rights of civil society members and the fundamental freedoms of all Georgian citizens.
