The United States calls for a thorough investigation into reports of violations related to the parliamentary elections in Georgia.<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This statement<\/a> was made by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He described Georgia's democracy as \"a source of strength since 2004,\" while the high voter turnout in the elections was \"a sign of the people's support for the democratic process.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Blinken, in 2024, international and local observers reported the misuse of state resources by the ruling party, vote-buying, and voter intimidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinken noted that these actions resulted in an uneven playing field and undermined both public and international confidence in the possibility of a fair election outcome.
International and local observers stated that the election day in Georgia was \"generally well-organized,\" but the U.S. side noted reports of violations and incidents of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"We condemn all violations of international standards and join the calls of international and local observers for a thorough investigation of all election-related violations,\" emphasized the U.S. Secretary of State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinken urged Georgian political leaders to respect the rule of law, repeal legislation that undermines fundamental freedoms, and address shortcomings in the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also recalled that Georgia\u2019s European and Euro-Atlantic integration goals, enshrined in the country\u2019s constitution, require the government to respect the rights of civil society members and the fundamental freedoms of all Georgian citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On October 27, the Georgian Election Commission's website reported that, after processing ballots from 99% of polling stations, the pro-Russian party Georgian Dream received 54.24% of the votes.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Election Commission, the opposition Coalition for Change received 10.8%, United National Movement \u2013 10.1%, Strong Georgia \u2013 8.7%, and Gakharia \u2013 For Georgia \u2013 7.7%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opposition Georgian parties Coalition for Change and United National Movement announced that they do not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections and have called for protests.<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the government will be approved despite the opposition's refusal to recognize the election results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
